I know its been a while since I last posted up here, I appreciate the feedback and comments over the years more than you know. Since dropping off the book of faces I have missed seeing what you all have been up to but could not agree or tolerate the sites nonsense. Zuck refused to share any of the money he earned off me and my data!
So, here is another adventure Karen and I took with Zorro over to the coastal town of Cedar Point.
On the White Oak River and not far from the ocean or the intercoastal waterway we were almost surrounded by water.

When we walked down from the cottage to the waters edge we could see for miles. Looking NE we could see out to Hampton Bay on a clear morning.
The cottage was completely rebuilt after Florence came through and devastated the area, most of the homes and businesses were being repaired or just getting back on their feet. Money from the gommint has still not been flowing into the area and here we are in another hurricane season. Above is a shot of the now empty lot next to the place we rented.
We had a few days so we took to exploring. Nearby was a state park, Hammocks Beach, where we took in a guided bird tour. It was a great group, a few serious birders enhanced our experience.

Due to the destruction of the dock at the park we were unable to take the ferry to Bear Island, but the walk in the woods took us through a controlled burn area, which accounted for the lack of birds. Our guide was great at engaging the kids on the tours and they took part in calling to the birds as well. The kayak rental place was also down from the storm so we headed to the coast for a bit of fishing.
It was a bit crowded but I was able to make a few casts, lucky for the fish i did not have the right bait. Tide was coming in and conditions were perfect, no fish bothered me at all!
On the way back to base for lunch, we stopped at a nine hole disc golf course. Again due to the storm it was a bit cluttered.

Next we headed over to another park, Cedar Point Tideland, along the White Oak River and the Dubling Creek. I was able to do a little more fishing as the tide was good. We did quite a bit of walking as the trails had been cleared off and the views were great.
There we some excellent walkways over the wet spots and we made a full circumvention of the park. Luckily there were benches strategically placed along the way as it was a bit warm and the little guy was a bit tired. Next we headed up to Swansboro and Jacksonville where the Marines have Camp Lejeune. It was easy to tell when we were getting close as the artillery and gunfire became almost non stop. However we were there for a different kind of target practice...seems there is a wonderful disc golf site just opposite the main gate of the camp and I was in for a treat! Seems there was a tournament just the week before we arrived and the course was in splendid shape!
After a few tries Karen was able to catch me in action! I was having a grand time. Lucky for me the trees were hardly in my way at all!
The New River was on the edge of the course so of course we went down to see what it looked like, as well as do a bit of fishing and relaxing by the water. As with many rivers in NC you have to keep an eye out for any alligators. Zorro is not fond of them.
We had a nice time visiting and hope to return. Our next trip will be back to the mountains as we head to Hot Springs NC. Booked a cottage there on an Organic Farm with natural hot tubs! We have been to the Broad Wing Farm before and enjoyed the stay. Close to Tenn and right on the French Broad River where the AT comes thru town.
